Boston Choral Society is looking for a Conductor/Musical Director

Application deadline: Thursday, 29 February 2024

Boston Choral Society is seeking a new Musical Director from September 2024.

A registered charity, we are a long established choral society based in Lincolnshire. The society is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. As a choir we have been strengthened under the 9 year leadership of our current multi-talented director Peter Wellsted. During that time, the choir has expanded its repertoire considerably. It has delved into genres other than pure classical, such as musical theatre and contemporary classical together with some modern.

The successful candidate will need to be skilled, ambitious and motivating, with a good sense of humour, to lead us forward into this exciting new phase of our singing.

We currently have a membership of 22 non-auditioned SATB singers. We have an excellent professional accompanist who has been with the choir for many years. We perform a minimum of three major concerts per year - mainly locally - in December, March/April and June/July. Rehearsals are from September to June, during term time, taking place in Kirton Town Hall, on Thursday evenings.

Remuneration, currently session based, will be discussed at interview. This will take the format of a formal interview plus a requirement to conduct the choir at one of its rehearsals to a piece the applicant has previously prepared for the choir to sing. Informal chats are desirable.

Please contact the lead for the recruitment process, Dr Anna Zahorski, by emailing edwannaz@doctors.org.uk to organise a mutually convenient time.

Interested candidates should submit the following to Dr Anna Zahorski:

    1. A covering letter of less than 400 words explaining why you are ideal to lead the Boston Choral Society through the next phase of its existence.

    2. A current CV, including names and contact details of two referees, ideally one of whom should be a member of a choir recently conducted by the applicant.

    3. Brief details of any public concerts you will be conducting during the appointment period (March-May 2024)

    4. Any social media handles that may be relevant and showcase the applicant’s abilities to perform as a Musical Director.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 29th February 2024. A formal job description and interview time-frame will be sent out to shortlisted candidates.
