Music is absolutely central to life at Lincoln Minster School and children are encouraged to participate whether through playing, composing or attending concerts and recitals. Our links with Lincoln Cathedral underline this musical focus, and the experience of hearing music in the wonderful cathedral setting is one that our students will take with them and remember forever. Concerts are performed each term and Lunchtime Live events in the Recital Hall take place frequently. The Preparatory and Senior School both offer a wide range of extra-curricular music activities including choirs, orchestras, jazz band and string ensembles.

St. Hugh’s has a widely respected Music Department. Over 80% of pupils learn at least one instrument, and some 150 music lessons take place every week.

There are two orchestras, one regularly playing symphony movements and concerti (Schubert, Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart etc..). All children in Years 3-6 also play yearly in class orchestras.

Two choirs perform sacred and secular works, the senior singing in parts for weekly robed services. Concerts take place throughout the year, both at school and in the wider community.

A full-length Broadway show is produced each spring, along with other junior productions in other terms.

Music scholarships are obtained regularly to senior schools, six in the current year.
All children participate musically in concerts and services.

Music scholarships are available for children entering the school at 11 (Year 7).
